Different cooling needs and storage requirements have inspired appliance designers to come up with different refrigerator designs.  This is to say that every refrigerator design is unique to one’s needs in as much as every refrigerator brand has their own version for a specific design.  Over the years, major refrigerator brands including GE, Frigidaire, Thermador, Sub-Zero, Viking and many more are relentlessly in pursuit to get their own models into the consumers’ top choices.

Knowing your own design type refrigerator says so much about your overall cooling requirements.  Here are some of the major refrigerator designs – their distinct ergonomic descriptions, sets of features, and why you might need one for yourself.

  • Compact refrigerators.  Compact refrigerators are not equipped with extra cooling features and innovations but they come in handy in limited living spaces like dormitory rooms, apartment rooms and even personal bedrooms.  Kenmore, Haier and Frigidaire are some of the well-known brands.
  • Top Freezer refrigerators.  Top freezer refrigerators are upright refrigerators with the freezer compartment mounted on top of the design.  Top freezer refrigerator is one of the most popular and traditional designs, but it is also proven to be energy-efficient and affordable.
  • Bottom Freezer refrigerators.  Bottom freezer refrigerators are spruced-up versions of top freezer fridges, only the freezer compartment is mounted on the bottom part.  This is perfect for those people who want easy and convenient access to food products because everything is rendered on an eye-level basis.
  • Side-By-Side refrigerators.  Side-by-side refrigerators are perfect refrigerator choices for people who store equal amounts of food products to both freezer and refrigerator compartments.  It offers a simultaneous view to the interiors of the fridge because both compartments are parallel to each other.
  • French-Door refrigerators. French-door refrigerators are probably the most luxurious design among existing fridge types.  It’s a combination of a side-by-side refrigerator and bottom-freezer refrigerator.  High-end brands like Thermador and Viking offer this design although some Frigidaire refrigerators are available in French-door style.
